“A big smile and a friendly hello can make all the difference to someone struggling through the day.”

ScrapAntics is one of Dundee’s most welcoming creative hubs, a place where people from all backgrounds come together to make, share and feel part of something.

Since 2016, the team has been building connections between New Scots and people who have lived in Scotland all their lives, using creativity as the spark that brings people into the same space.

As Neil Crutchley from ScrapAntics puts it:

“We have always believed that creativity and fairness go hand in hand. Our aim is to bring New Scots and Scots together in everything we do and our events and activities all help people meet, build friendships and challenge misconceptions. A smile and a hello can change someone’s day and we never forget that.”

ScrapAntics is passionate about improving opportunities for people across Dundee. From Family Club sessions to ScrapThursdays drop‑ins, from play sessions across the city to being part of big community celebrations like Dundee Play Festival and Refugee Festival Scotland, the team is constantly creating ways for people to connect.

Neil shares:

“People visiting ScrapAntics always talk about the welcome they receive. A big smile and a friendly hello can make all the difference to someone struggling through the day. Our team always remember this whenever someone pops by.

“It has been a joy to witness the positive changes in the lives of so many who are part of our work. We have a dedicated team who support refugee and migrant communities, and some of our colleagues bring their own lived experience of seeking safety. They bring so many skills and a genuine understanding of the needs of asylum seeking and refugee communities.”

And people feel that. Some participants share their experiences:

“I first got involved with ScrapAntics through coming to Family Club. I always used to come to all the art activities with my mum, they were so much fun!” – participant one

“ScrapAntics has helped me build my confidence, meet so many amazing people, and become part of an incredible community. It just feels so wholesome in ScrapAntics. Just like a family.” – participant two

“My favourite thing about ScrapAntics is that it feels like home more than just somewhere to volunteer and work. I love how everyone is so kind. It’s where I met all the amazing people I know!” – participant three

ScrapAntics shows what can happen when creativity, fairness and community sit side by side. A smile at the door. A place to belong. A celebration of what people can build together.
