Pregnancy can be a challenging time, especially for women in the asylum system.
Scottish Refugee Council has created a new online guide with clear and reliable information on the support available to women seeking asylum throughout pregnancy.
All women have the right to receive free NHS maternity care during pregnancy and after birth. This includes women seeking asylum – even if their claim has been refused.
The free, ‘Pregnancy and asylum’ guide includes information about:
- rights of pregnant women and new parents
- healthcare women are entitled to
- the role of key healthcare professionals, like midwives and health visitors
- financial assistance available to pregnant women and new parents
