COSLA and the Scottish Government have launched a Hate Crime Toolkit to help local authorities tackle hate crime and support stronger, more connected communities. The toolkit offers practical information on what hate crime is, how to report it, and includes examples of successful approaches from councils around Scotland.

Councillor Maureen Chalmers, COSLA’s Community Wellbeing Spokesperson, said:

“COSLA is committed to ensuring that every community in Scotland feels safe, respected, and valued. Hate crime has a devastating impact on individuals and communities, and local authorities play a vital role in addressing it. This new Understanding Hate Crime Toolkit provides practical guidance and resources to help councils understand and respond effectively to hate crime. By working together, we can tackle prejudice, promote equality, and build inclusive communities where everyone feels they belong.”
