For people recently granted refugee status, one of the first things they need to think about is finding somewhere to live. Following a positive decision, people are required to move on from asylum accommodation within 28 days, making housing an immediate priority.

Scottish Refugee Council has developed a free online ‘Applying for housing’ guide to help refugees understand their options and take the necessary steps to apply for housing. The guide is also available 21 other languages.
The guide includes information on:
- What is a council/local authority area?
- How do I make a homeless application?
- What is a social housing application?
- Where do I apply for social housing?
- Where can I get housing advice?
The guide also includes downloadable maps showing Scotland’s 32 council areas, helping people understand where different areas are located and consider a wider range of housing options.
For people required to move on from asylum accommodation, accessing housing information and starting the application process as early as possible is essential.
