Scottish Refugee Council has launched a new online guide designed to help new refugees in Scotland understand what to do after getting refugee status (‘Leave to Remain’).

Getting refugee status is an important step in people starting to rebuild their lives and gives them new rights. However, refugee status also comes with changes that people need to prepare for.

The guide is available in 21 languages and gives information on topics including:

  • what’s next
  • new rights
  • documents checklist
  • money and benefits
  • bank account
  • housing
  • health

In addition to Scottish Refugee Council’s freephone helpline and support service for new refugees, the guide will be a valuable resource for newly-granted refugees as well as for individuals, groups, and organisations supporting people seeking safety in Scotland.
